It’s my birthday today and I’m 36 years young!
I’ve never liked my birthday and I’m not sure why, but I think it comes from being shy and embarrassed about being celebrated. Well, I’ve decided that this year, that all ends. I’m embracing the whole thing-including aging- from this year on!

I have the best family in the universe! From the moment I open my eyes, I feel so loved. Grace gives me a beautiful silver necklace, a homemade card and some crystals, and all the boys get started on breakfast: banana pancakes- what a delicious treat!

There are lots of hugs and love and I feel so grateful that my family appreciates me so much. I also feel guilty for all the other years when I dreaded it, which seems so mean; my loving family just wants to celebrate how much they love and appreciate me and because of my weird birthday feelings I have been depriving them of that. Well, not today.

Grace braids my hair and puts a hair band on me and it looks great! She always wants to do my hair and makeup. Next, it’s time for a manicure. The whole family have banned me from working today so I may as well have nice nails! (Playing guitar wrecks my nails)

Daniel makes pasta for lunch.

It’s so good! And he’s cooking dinner tonight as well! I’m spoiled today. In the afternoon we go for a really lovely walk at Whitemarsh Preserve, and I just love soaking up the nature all around us. It’s so different to Scotland, with sandy trails, palms and long trailing moss everywhere- it looks like a fairytale forest!

We look for mushrooms and find these really unique ghost flowers which are parasitic and feed on mycelium!

Back at the Hoose Grace and I watch a girly movie after dinner. It’s been a perfect day and my favourite birthday ever!
