Woke up to rain again
It’s supposed to stop this morning and be cloudy all day, so fingers crossed! We are doing laundry today, and then I am going to busk at The Beaches again. It’s black friday, and I’m not sure how that will effect things, so I’m a little nervous but excited to get back at it!
I can’t stop thinking about an elderly gentleman I met last night who parked his camper next to ours. His wife was being checked out by doctors and he was all alone on the evening of thanksgiving. I asked the kids this morning to make get well cards for her, but I think he has gone already. I wish I could have offered him some comfort or helped in some way.
We head to the laundromat after homeschool, and have some dinner while we are there before driving to The Beaches.
Maps says it is way less busy than usual, so I’m not very hopeful but I head out anyway, just after 6pm. If I can make enough for a pack of strings, tomorow will be so much better!
When I arrive, there are people! I’m excited so I quickly set up near the Jaguar statue and the tips start coming in! The cold makes the strings go out of tune immediately, so I have to stop a few times to retune. I break a string, replace it, and carry on. A few people stop to talk or sit down to listen. A gentleman jumps out a car and comes over to listen, putting in a ten! I finish my song and start another, and he walks over to talk, so I stop playing and we have a nice conversation. Then he says “it’s Christmas and you’re really good” and puts in a hundred dollar bill!! I’m thrilled! We shake hands, he tells me his name is Mike, I thank him profusely and give him a business card, wishing him a good evening.
I play for about another hour and then break the same string I replaced (with a used string so my own fault) and then the broken end stabs about an inch into my hand! I take that as my cue to pack up: I put a band-aid on it, put my guitar in the case, take off the tambourine, send a message to Daniel, thank my audience and walk the short distance to the Hoose.
We are all elated with the success of the evening, and drive straight away to the nearest guitar shop for some new strings!
