Back in Scotland, thanksgiving isn’t part of our traditions
So today our homeschool class is all about the origins and meaning of this American holiday. After the history lesson (given by Daniel of course because I need to learn too!), the kids watch Charlie Brown’s thanksgiving, then we make some turkey hands together!
Harry requests a special thanksgiving dinner of chicken, mash, carrots and peas, most of which I have, so I thankfully can fulfill his request!
Harry and Grace help with the food preparations- they are both keen little chefs, and Angus loves cooking too!
Grace changes into a nice new outfit that is more festive, complete with wig!
Dinner turns out to be delicious, and we each say something we are thankful for, then watch Home Alone, which the kids find just hilarious!
It’s one of my favourites too. We enjoy some popcorn which we cook on the stove (as always), and hot cocoa.
Everyone has a really enjoyable first thanksgiving.
I am truly grateful to be here, experiencing new traditions, in a new country with my loved ones by my side. Each and every day is a new adventure, and I cherish learning about American culture, which truly is a multi-faceted thing. This season we are in Florida, but who knows what the next one will bring? I love all the unknowns, at times scary, but undoubtedly exciting, and I feel safe in the bosom of the universe, as I move ever onwards towards a future that leads who knows where?
